Reading:
We have reviewed the difference between main idea and theme.
Main Idea: The most important point the author wants me to understand about the topic in the text.
Theme: The life lesson, meaning, moral, or message about life or human nature that is communicated by a literary work. The theme could be applied to areas of a person’s life.

Please make sure your child is completing their READING JOURNAL! It is due every Friday and they should have five new entries each week.
Writing:
We are currently working on a personal narrative about a time that we were hurt. We have completed the planning for the story and are starting on the rough draft. We will be publishing these stories through a company called Student Treasures. Your child will get one free hard-back copy of the book and information will be coming home soon about how to order more copies. The books will be published in your child’s handwriting and they will create all of the illustrations for their book.
